Myth and Memory

Myth and Memory
Jon Pryer

3 April 2025

20 April 2025

Opening:

5 April 2025 at 7:00:00 am

Passing responsibility to the viewer for physical input and emotional output, his works require the viewer to engage for the full experience.

In this exhibition Jon explores some of his memories, through his predilection to anthropomorphise and reference the past, some of his memories of the past are even real... or close enough to control the present narrative.

Many of Jons automata-like works require the viewer to engage, for full experience of the work. This passing of responsibility to the viewer for the physical input and emotional output of the work is a recuring theme in his art practice.

Jon likes dogs a lot.

Jon Pryer studied life drawing and sculpture before following a career in Industrial Design as both a practitioner and educator. Through his commercial career he has designed products you probably use or see every day; product as varied as custom vehicles, medical equipment, Museum exhibits and toys through to sporting goods.

Pryer has maintained a practice as a sculptor, working in a wide range of materials and processes. He has a keen interest in the interaction between object and observer and an ongoing fascination with anthropomorphism and the form of our relationship with various animals.

We at The Creator Incubator acknowledge that we are meeting and working on the traditional country of the Awabakal and Worimi peoples. We recognise and respect their cultural heritage, beliefs, and continuing relationship with the land, and that they are the proud survivors of more than two hundred years of dispossession - land never ceded.
